A nice little session last night. Channel One didn’t bring their own boxes, which was a bit of a disappointment in the early stages, but they warmed the place up nicely with some great roots selections, Sizzla, African Simba, you name it. Very “clean” venue which could have done with less lighting, but the crowd was great and the event needs supporting if people want a fortnightly cheap roots session in central Hackney.

Towards the end the floor filled up, the vibes went through the roof with some old and mainly new material, including their own productions. Excellent work from the mic-men with a particularly memorable chat about Hackney being a concrete jungle. Hearing Channel One’s original dubplate of “Kunte Kinte” was made all the better by seeing some serious warrior-style skanking from most of the people there, and the confused look on the faces of some recently arrived suits who looked like they’d just beamed down on another planet.

The next one is Nick Manasseh in a couple of weeks (more about whom when I do some reviews in a bit).

If you can see the photo above, you’ll be pleased to hear that Phase Two is now also complete…

[edit – phase two was a gallery that got hacked – photos now below!]
