Read a review of this a while back and wanted to read it, cheers for the reminder. Interesting to read about Rice and how utterly unsurprising. After the regular experience of of meeting black clad turds on the occult scene (it still happens after all these years), I tend to see it in through a Reichian/armouring kind of lens – it’s a way to stay cool and transgressive but still stay out of contact with stuff that might upset you. Sort of intellectual/counter-culture armouring, if you will.
