Hi Simon! Sorry just seen this - yeah I managed to get hold of a recording of the gig and it isn't their best by any means. The shock of the new counts for a lot, clearly...

I was at this too - probably the worst of the five times I saw PTV during the eighties. Scott Nobody may have looked the part of a rock star but his flamenco-inflected gtr didn't work at all in the band, and I remember the atmosphere in there being pretty restrained compared to other occasions.

I tried looking in vain for Webcore records after seeing them at this night.

The Seldiy Bate & Nigel Bourne album is something I am quite fond of and have played at least once a year since the eighties - not every track comes off and there are some John Shuttleworth-esque home organ sounds, but it's a sincere, homespun and genuinely odd disc. Nigel Bourne turned up on TV as a Wiccan spokesman more than once during the 90s, and also appeared as a contestant on 'Countdown' - he didn't do as well as Nick Saloman (aka the Bevis Frond) who became a series champion while sporting Walkingseeds T-shirts and engaging in occasional painful banter with host Richard Whitely about 'psychedelic underground music'. I was watching a lot of daytime TV during the early 90s while recovering from my psychick youth...

The guitarist was probably Scott Nobody. He stepped in for a while when Alex left the band and before I was drafted in in 1988.

telepathic regards,

Oh yes I remember Nigel and Selidy (I think that's how it's spelt) - didn't they just do a short ritual to invoke Brian Jones or something? Their album is a classic "bargain bin play once and forget about it" jobbie. I remember reading about the boat trip but not being able to go... and yeah that run of gigs around London in I guess 84 or so sounded amazing - Temporary Temple in a squatted synagogue, ICA, etc.

Went to this gig i seem to remember one gig at the Empire when Nigel Borne and Seldiy Bates not sure of the spelling played .They were TRULLY APPALLING some sort of witch and wizzard .Went to an after show party which Paula P.O .had organised and missed the last train home to Luton. Also turned up for a boat trip with PTV and the boat never left took on water .Also Electric Ballroom gig with someone walking round in his mums dressing gown .Best one of the lot was Ham Palais with Virgin Prunes and the Ballet set to mouth of the night .
Always superb events
