Farewell Woebot

WOEBOT: Farewell

So it’s goodbye to Woebot – no more of them massive posts with huge amounts of scans and even more great comment, no more hugely ambitious projects like woebot.tv and well, all that.

I think it’s fair to say that in our little corner of the web a lot of people had been reading Simon Reynolds’ site, and then blog, but it was TWANBOC that played the bigger part in showing people they could do it themselves – Woebot just seemed a bit more accessible in some ways and proudly amateur in the sense of not being a paid journo / published author.

In his usual style, Paul Meme weighed in early with an arsey email.

The various interblog posts which followed from Heronbone, K-Punk, silverdollarcircle, gutterbreakz, the original soundtrack, skykicking (and my and Paul’s efforts) were in retrospect golden times for me and t’internet. Lots and lots of great blogs followed.

And when the sidebars all got a bit unwieldy, Dissensus came along…

So, respect where due.

feel positive yet? you might be waiting there a while…

Push it in, that's right... alllllll the way in... yeah baby, just like that. You know that's how I like it. Connect with me.... oooh yeah. I want your credit inside me baby.... oh yeah! I can feel it... OHHHHHHHH.....

I’ve noticed that in my haste to move to a new web host, several minor things have stopped working.

The first of these is the search function on the index page of the “archive” bit of the site, which has now been fixed.

The second is the uncarved shop which will be back in due course with a load more stock.

The last thing, which I don’t think I can fix, is that the permalinks for this blog have now changed. That means any links you have to old posts probably won’t end up where you expect them to. That’s quite annoying as a load of people have linked to things here over the years, but there it is. Apologies, I shall see what I can do.

I’ve moved to a new spiffy webhost. Whilst doing this some things have been lost, notably a few pics and commments from this blog. Apologies for that – what passes for normal service here will resume shortly.

You’re Not My Real Dad

A new blog actually worth checking from the off. Proper unhinged business.

Stop Comment Spam and Trackback Spam « Akismet

Today we give thanks to the creators of the Akismet plugin for blogs. Since installing it about a year ago, this little critter has stopped 20,282 spam comments from appearing on this blog.

10,000 of these were in the last two weeks, so this is not something which has passed its sell-by date.

Akimset is free to download for personal use and now comes bundled with wordpress, but it works with a number of other things as well. My heartfelt thanks to everyone involved!

spit and polish

I’ve upgraded to WordPress 2.2 and started using the Fluid Blue 1.0 theme.

So things look a little different and this blog now supports “widgets”. The first of these is a “recent comments” section at the top of the sidebar.

I doubt many people are all that interested in this, but I’d just like to thank all the volunteers who’ve worked on wordpress coding and Srinivasan for making a theme which is similar to my previous one, but better.
