fiver frolics

Sunday morning and the playground is covered with pigeons. The daughter scares them off by running around, and jumping up and down a bit, before getting on the swings.

The disapperance of the playground’s carpet of pigeons reveals a carpet of half-eaten takeaways and beer cans. Being dutiful citizens, me and my better half start clearing them up, getting slightly slimy hands into the bargain.

I’m muttering under my breath about “yobs” in typical Daily Mail fashion, when I pick up a crumpled Woolworth’s receipt, poking out of which is a bit of blue paper…

…I start laughing. It’s not like I believe in karma and all that bullshit, but there’s some kind of justice at work here – a slightly damp fiver amongst all the litter…

    two vaguely related points:

    1. when we were in paris last year, we were wandering along the boulevards one morning, when i spied a man jump on a pigeon’s head, leaving its (small) brains dashed across the pavement. no-one cared. i guess he didn’t like pigeons. i still feel a bit queasy when i think about it.

    2. happened to pick up a copy of the daily mail (yes, i know it was stupid) whilst in a sandwich shop. i have never read so much fear per square inch in my life. i was scared to leave the establishment for 40 minutes in case i got jumped by drug taking drunk gypsies whilst sprinting the 10 metres to the car

I find myself doing this more and more ! ( yipes ) …and today my wife had to tell me off…my neighbour was playing some heavy b line biznis, and I was raving, “listen to it, it just goes on and on, a repetitive, simplistic melody!”

My wife grinned and said ” yeah, exactly like YOUR music…”

What could I say to that? Last night I had cranked out “Prowling Lion” by the Disciples and This Heat, 23 Skidoo and Iration steppas…

Oh well ! Ageing process huh ? I do worry though…I’ve already started shouting at the TV news in a “I dont BELIEVE it” manner…..
    Worrying….

Matt, I feel ill too now! You reminded me of when I lived in Korea, and saw many such disgusting things I can’t bear to go into here, regarding extreme and savage cruelty to animals…the very memories depress me deeply to this day, and I have to force them out of my mind….

Sentimental as it may sound, but animals seem so close to humans , emotionally and physically, it really hurts if I see animals abused…
